About the role
Reporting to the Senior Engineer, Long Term Planning, the main purpose of this role is to assist the Senior Engineer in delivering long term plans which meet strategic objectives.
In This Role, You Will
- Assist in developing long term plans which consider; mine optimization and designs, mine schedules and equipment requirements, waste dump designs, haul road designs and ore blending
- Have the ability to develop annual budget and LOM mine plans, with experience in sourcing and developing the assumptions and inputs required to meet the mill throughput rates. Develop ore blending strategies which aim to optimize gold production
- Work closely with the senior long term planning engineer on pit design optimization, to ensure pit and waste dump designs are up-to-date and plans incorporate environmental and geotechnical considerations
- Provide input and review of the 13 weekly rolling plan ensuring alignment to annual budgets and LOM plans.
- Appropriated action to the key stakeholders if there is any significant variance to the mine plan which has the potential to impact the Life of Mine (LOM) plan.
- Investigate variations that occur and ensure that plans to rectified variations are actioned
- Continuously review and improve on existing processes, systems and procedures for the mine planning section
- Promote environmentally sound work practices with peers, contractors and suppliers. Informing persons in work area (employees, contractors and visitors) of New Porgera Limited’s Environmental Policy and Practices
- Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & Procedures
About You
To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience.
- Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of experience and above in long term open pit mine planning
- Ideally have IEPNG and or AusIMM membership
- Proficient Deswik user, geological modelling, mine planning & scheduling software packages
- Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing, presentation and spreadsheet applications
- Awareness of geological, geotechnical, hydrogeological, and environmental considerations impacting mine designs and schedules.
- Demonstrated ability to collaboratively work with other technical services functions, including geology, hydrogeology, geotechnical, and survey.
- Ability to work unsupervised and display good problem-solving skills
- Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
- Adaptability in a diverse work environment, including a multicultural setting.

This role is offered on a FIFO basis from Papua New Guinea with a 21/14 roster on a contract basis with a highly competitive remuneration package.
